Elaeocarpus dentatus

Hīnau

A slow-growing, lowland forest native with large green leaves. Bears white bell-shaped flowers in early summer, followed purple fruit in autumn that is attractive to birds. In the garden, it seldom reaches more than 10m, but grows to around 18m in its natural lowland forest habitat. Prefers rich, moist soil in partial shade. Larger leaves than E. hookerianus, and without a juvenile form.
